🟥 There were €71 million a year at stake and three groups competing. It was the contract of the century.
The European Commission and Parliament were betting on a bold initiative: the European Television Network (ETVN), a pan-European channel. The goal: to do journalism, tell stories and bring Europe closer to its citizens.
We won: the public broadcasters’ consortium, led by the EBU. Canal Sur Televisión, the Andalusian public broadcaster, led the Spanish team with aNews, alongside CyLTV (Castilla y León) and Canal Nou (Valencia).
We had the resources and editorial control, but it didn’t last long. A casualty of European politics. And of its contradictions.
